Who We Are
Martin Niemöller wrote "First They Came For..." about Nazi Germany. His central message: if they come for your neighbor in the night, they will surely come for you in the morning. We all have to look out for one another.
We are a group committed to resisting tyranny through non-violent means.
We continue to find effective ways to combat the assault on our freedoms, the first amendment, and our free society. We know there are many citizens from other countries who have witnessed their democracies backslide into autocracy. They consistently offer us the same advice:
"It can happen here, so never, ever give up."
Elie Wiesel said:
"We must take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. Sometimes we must interfere. When human lives are endangered, when human dignity is in jeopardy, national borders and sensitivities become irrelevant. Wherever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe."
We will take sides.
So long as autocracy, oppression, threats, bullying and a lack of humanity are allowed to flourish, we will not stop fighting. We are students of history, and know that history will not be kind to those who have callously unleashed the chaos, nor to those who stood idly by and watched it happen.
